Hi there i was just wondering how long a defrosted mouse can stay out for until it is no longer good to use.
Jarrod:D

Couple of hours max any longer than that and it starts the go off. Once its been defrosted bacteria starts again. There was a thread a while back about refreezing once they have been defrosted there were differing opinions of the affect. It's not worth the risk.

would that not depend on whats eating it? most monitors are carrion eaters so a mouse out for 24hrs or so should not be an issue for that no? (happy to be corrected)

but for my snakes if they don't take the food when offered at night i leave it until morning if its still their i remove\dispose it before going to work so that's 9hrs max for me

Damn! thanks thats a bit of a disipointment because i left about 50 mice out last night...lol. Do you know the name of the post you mentioned.

How come you defrosted so many? Heaps of people have refrozen them with no problem. It's just up to how careful you want to be

I'm guessing someone bought 50 mice and forget to put them straight in the freezer.

Snakes have extremely strong immunity to germs and protozoa in their digestive tracts. In fact snake stomach acid is amongst the strongest of ANY animal, and if a snake regurgitated right into your eyes you could actually go blind from severe chemical burns.

I wouldn't say that mice left out for an hour or two would pose any risk to a snake of any sort. Womas have amongst the strongest immunity to germs, along with blackheaded pythons, and virtually all monitors.

It's mainly infections from cuts or injuries that you really need to worry about with snakes.

while were on the topic - how long can i leave the mice in the freezer for?? before it becomes risky...

When I use to get dolittle farm mice/rats they have on the bag use within 8 weeks of opening. I think it's mainly just to get people to throw them out and buy more. I would think a couple of months would be ok. I have been buying in lots of 20 but they don't last long so it's not really a issue
