i think thats good, means we will keep our animals in our country and stops them breedin all our animals with the bloody ball python etc

I like the idea of it.
"it is aggressive" and another quote "it is aggressive" hahah

i think it is a good thing....bout time they had restrictions on what they can keep.....plus it will hopefuly reduce if not stop the amount of illegaly smuggled snakes entering the states...

This bill also excludes the keeping of non-native fish in the US. I personally think its a poorly thought-out knee-jerk reaction. It won't affect me but it does set a precedent that the Aus government may decide to follow.

They will get use to it. Might feel like a big kick in teeth now, but Aussie's got over it and look at what we have. We have plenty of beautiful natives without needing exotics.

I guess the burmese python infestation has probably triggered the ban, or part of it, anyway.

For those that dont know.

What is HR 669?
H.R. 669 stands for House Resolution 669 and is titled "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act". It is a bill currently before Congress that if passed will change the way that the US Government classifies animal species that are not native to the United States. H.R. 669 will make it illegal to breed and sell many animals that are very common in the pet trade.

Why should you care about HR 669?
Anyone with pet fish, birds, reptiles, or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Any company selling product or services for pet fish, birds, reptiles or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Would you be impacted by "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act"?

  • Virtually all fish in an aquarium are not native to the United States
  • Most pet birds are species not native to the US
  • Most reptiles kept as pets are not native to the US
  • Hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets are not native to the US

I think it is sad that many of you Aussie keepers have such distain for us American Keepers. I would love nothing more than for every one of you to be able to keep any species you wish. I would be happy to send over any Native American species for you to keep, breed, and enjoy if it were legal. After all keeping species in captivity may end up being all that saves some of them. I am always hoping you guys can get less restrictive laws while it seems some of you hope our rights are taken away. I am sorry it is this way as we all love the same things.

As humans, sometimes we need to be saved from ourselves, passionate hobbiests don't always make the right decisions reguarding what should or shouldn't be kept. Australian laws will never be changed mainly due to the fact we have a feral creature whiping out vast numbers of native animals all along our east and north coast.
