I Have 2 questions

Ok... Lets start with my irritating rats

My females keep dying, The first female died within the first week and this one has lasted a month. They both looked pregnant. I kept them well fed and gave them plenty of spots to shelter them from the cold. I have had my male for bout 2 months and he is still going strong.... Any idea's? I'm going to make a proper rat breeding set up this weekend... should i get them from a breeder rather than the pet shop?

Second...

My BHPs smell... I feed them every week they are a metre+ in length about 18 months old. I clean enclosure every week, and spot clean everyday. These are my first larger pythons, do they just have a distinct smell about them. They have had it since i got them. Should i clean them, it smells kinda like an excreteish smell? Any ideas, or opininons would be great.

firstly with the rats, when i first started breeding my rats both my females died in the first month also, but now 3 months later i still have all my secondary females, all their babies are now breeding, and the males are still going strong. the first ones i got from the petshop, they died, the second lot i got from a breeder, they are all still going strong, try getting them from a breeder.

none of my bhp's smell, i replace all the newspaper every time as soon as they have deficated, and dont have a problem with them, if they have slithered through it before i get to cleaning it, then i give them a 15 min soak in water and then they are clean and fresh!

Buy from a breeder, a reputable breeder if possible. They are likely to have less diseases/problems than petshop mice/rats and you get the advantage of seeing the breeders other stock and how healthy it is.
