ID please

Just wondering if anyone can ID this animal. It was found by a friend of mine in the Pilliga Forest near Baradine. It was put in the cardboard box for photographing & released. I am told it was around 12 inches long.

Its a Coral Snake brachyurophis australis

I agree that it looks most like Brachyurophis australis.

Location further confirms this ID, as it's the only member of the genus that naturally occurs near Baradine.

This specimen is a beautiful animal. In fact, when I researched Brachyurophis I found that all in this group are spectacular animals, Australis & Fasciolatus in particular. I was also surprised to find that Brachyurophis australis is listed as an R1 species on the NSW native animals list. I have never heard of anyone keeping them.

it still remains with anomalus, bertholdi, littoralis and minimus

the rest (7) were split into brachyurophis

So approximans, australis, bimaculatus, calonotus, fasciolatus, semifasciatus, warro, and I think there is instinctus have been re genused but why
