I was reading something on Woma pythons in a Reptiles Australia mag, it got me thinking, how about some of them in my collection, but then I realized that you can only keep 2 on a Recreational license. So I searched Bhp's on here, now I'm really interested in them.

I've looked on google for a while, not a whole lot. I would like to ask some questions, which I'm hoping somebody can answer, yet there is still more research to do.

Since they don't have heat sensing pits, can I use sand as substrate, or should I stick to Aspen?(I don't like the look of newspaper even if its easy to clean)

Enclosure size, 1500L, 550H, 600D, would them measurements do?

As for hatchlings, how big of a tub? 15L as a hatchling and upgrade as they get older?

I read that they eat reptiles in the wild, do I include this in there diet under my care?

If you can post a picture of your Black headed python Click clack or enclosure, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

hey mate, just use aspen or newspaper and no just feed rats, quails etc here is a pic i have two little ones in they are tubs from bunnings

All our hatchoes start in the same tub. BHPs just move up a size quicker than others. We use 400l x 100h x 150 wide (pictured); then 400 x 400 x 100h; then 400 x 600 x 150h; then 400 x 800 x 200h.

You can keep as many womas and green pythons as you want, you just have to up-grade to a specialist licence for pythons only.
Its easy to get as you dont need to do any courses or get letters of recomendation, just pay a few extra bucks and thats it. You just cant keep vens on this licence that all.

Sounds pretty good. Do I have to be a certain age?

If you ask a few people who have applied for the upgrade you might be surprised to hear it definitely isn't an automatic thing. I had to supply 2 letters from reputable keepers and I know of several people who have been knocked back for the license. It seems to depend on where you live.

Boa it depends on weather you go for the non-ven or ven. For non-ven you dont have to supply anything (well not here in MAckay anyway). Ven is a different story but and you do have to supply cert's of snake handling courses, referencs etc etc

Boa,- maybe they just dont like you, lol.
I know of heaps of people that have upgraded to this licence up north and in s/e qld with out any dramas. No letters needed, just a few extra bucks. Its just a formality.

Hi, I'm getting a BHP soon and would like to use sand if it's okay for the snake, I know the 1st repy said just to use newspaper or aspen but was this for the benifit of the snake or the owner? Is sand no good as a substrate for BHP's?

I would consider sand a bad substrate as it would not be kept as clean as a newspapered enclosure.

Is the only issue with sand for a BHP the cleanliness thing though? If the sand was spot cleaned as required and changed or disinfected weekly/fortnightly would it be okay?

I keep all of my hatcling Blackheads on aspen and they love it. I will find a few pics and post them for you. The male is 3yrs, the female is 2 so they are quite big now. The only drawback with using aspen is the price.

I haven't really got any opinions on my questions.
