I believe that I mentioned in my previous thread that I was interested in purchasing a new enclosure for my coastal (It's been living in a 3ft fish tank with a modified roof for ventilation), however after looking through a number of threads, I have noticed that it is common place to incorporate reptile enclosures into other pieces of furniture (The bloke who had built one into a bar blew my mind!).

Being a student, I don't think I will have access to much room for many years to come so the length and depth dimensions will be limited, however I was interested in constructing an enclosure out of a wooden television cabinet as I have seen many people do with excellent results, many with large height dimensions which is great for my living conditions. However after seeing a few people getting really crafty with the idea, I started to brainstorm on what furniture I could incorporate a tank into, some ideas I had come up with were either bedside dressers, entertainment units [however the vibrations and heat from electronics such as speakers etc might present some problems?] storage cupboards with room for a bar fridge, bed-head's and so forth. A coffee table came to mind, however I suspect it's practical use would disrupt it's inhabitants.

So I'm wondering, what sort of other great ideas and experience does this community have to offer? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

TL/DR: I'm looking to build an enclosure into another, functioning piece of furniture in interest of space saving, something 'dorm-room' friendly.

im in a simmilar position to you. i have also thought about a coffe table and came to the same conclusion. maybe you could make it into like a sideboard or make if a feature display in the middle of a cupboard. the oportunities are endless and are only limited by ur imagination.
and maybe ur budget and space lol

hey mate, i made my enclosure out of an old school pine tv cabinet. its got a few draws, cupboards and a shelf. its only 1m wide and 1.5m high so it doesnt take up much room. just finished putting the thermostat in about 10 mins ago :) hope this helps.

A friend of mine, who still lived at home was only allowed to have reptiles if he kept them in his bedroom.

Last I heard he was getting a customised wooden bed built on stilts & making an enclosure for his python underneath that was literally big enough to walk in to. He was using a combination of perspex & mesh panelling for the sides.

Im at the moment in the process of changing an old set of drawers into and enclosure, its the best idea just cause it fits so well into the other house furniture. I have seen someone work with an old tv set before amazingly. It looked great.
