So I am wondering what works best currently i just use damp vermiculite in the sistaema tubs that safeways sells. I've been seeing people using the sim tubs and was wondering what's the difference

feel free to post any pros an cons I'm open to any suggestions

l use the same tubs as you but with 4 mls. of water in the bottom of the tub nothing else been doing it for 15+ years on everything, never a problem why change......solar 17

I use a big plastic click clack and incubate over water like baden (solar 17). I put an upside down cutlery tray in it to support the eggs. More recently, I've been adding some window screen mesh and perlite to nestle the eggs and keep them from rolling. Works great and very cheap. The water gives a thermal mass which keeps you from having major temperature fluctuations while maintaining humidity, but eggs are high and dry above it. I move to a secure hatching container with damp paper on the bottom as soon as they pip.

1 question... Do u have to seal the tub and let air in occassionally or I've herd the small hole for your probe is enough to let air in yet still not lose humidity... Thanks in advance as this is bugging me for my 1st attempt next yr

There is a great thread about incubation on another forum, I can't put a link on here (site rules) but can pm people if they want.

I leave the lid a little bit loose, but if you open it now and then to exchange gases, it is okay. When you incubate over water, there is no problem with losing humidity. My incubator tub is so large that it can easily sustain several days without airing out if I sealed it.
