Hi all just wondering if anyone knows when the next "insect plague will occur". I remember that 2 years or so ago there were hundreds of locusts on the grass fields near my place. Would prefere if there was somewhere in syd or a habitat that was unanimous in the syd area. I herd about the caterpilla in melbourne. Also can the plagues be predicted or are they random.

Thx in advance

heard something the other day about it looking like there would be a locust plague in western nsw like it was about 5 years ago. i remember driving through them near grithiff. when i stopped they were just running of the front of the truck. it took heaps of washing to get them off.

bump is there any traps you can use to catch insect. Also are there any plagues coming soon.

I couldn't tell you when it'll happen, but prior to locusts there will be:
Blood
Frogs
Gnats
Flies
Dead Livestock
Boils
Hail
Then there's the locusts
Darkness
Then the death of the first born

I heard it happened once before in Egypt a while back

there is a locust plague developing now in western nsw, not something you would be happy about if you have experienced it...

Agreed but package them up and send them to the big smoke for tucker. Sky prawns on the menu for herp and man alike?

You don't want to feed them to anything spongebob, they will be laced with insecticide.

agreed, they wont be to good for your pets, when i was doing my phd there was an honours student sharing the animal house reptile room who was dosing up beardies with insecticide - didnt look good...
love the "sky prawns" call, i used that term last plague and had a friend of mine nearly wet his pants with laughter...

Insect plagues happen pretty regularly. There was a locust/grasshopper/cricket plague in south sydney / wollongong area some time last year. Was it in the summer holidays? I can't remember exactly. I just remember driving from uni through massive patches of them. Dirtied up my windscreen real bad :p

And then there was the bogong moth incident recently, too.

I found a beetle under my computer this morning, now I can't wait for the Christmas Beetles to start coming out. My dragons will love em.
