hi guys, im getting my first dragon but i have a small concern that the baby im getting might be too young? it was born yesterday (27 October) and im supposed to be picking him/her up today......Is this too soon or sould it be older?

I have until lunch time to pull out....i dont want it dropping dead or getting sick cos it should be left with the mother/other hatchies a little longer.

All help welcomed.

yeah well, I guess it's always a risk.... still, the vast majority of dragons hatch out in perfect health, it's not till a few weeks later that they develop low calcium related issues due to incorrect care.. you just have to weigh up the price your paying with your skill at raising beardies.... they aint as easy as people will have you believe....at least for someone new to lizards.

As long as it is already eating well, I like them to be at least 1-2 weeks old. As far as being with the mother, they would get eaten by her, and with other hatchies, it is not necessary, but I'd make sure the dragon has shown good signs of eating live insects before you buy it, then again some don't mind, as it will usually start eating in a couple of days anyway.

Greg, the only problem with that is a lot of them don't eat for the first few days while digesting the egg yolk....?
If u do go ahead with the purchase, just make sure u don't handle it much, if at all for the first few wks - just feed it 2-3 times/day with baby live woodies or crickets, supply finely chopped fresh veg/fruit daily, have your lights/heating all sorted, & make sure it doesn't get dehydrated.
Let us know how u get on:)

Sorry, thought u meant eating well today at pick-up! My mistake:)

Thanks guys, Seems to be ok and its already eaten now we have him home! Thanks for your advise! :)
