i got my spotted python last week
i tried offering it a mouse this morning but i just slid straight past it and went into it hide.
i defrosted it in the fridge and heated it up just before i fed it in some warm water. the guy at the pet shop i bought it off said it was a good feeder.
it is in between 30-40 cm and i was told he is about 11 months old.. now im only asking if it is small cause i went and picked up a new enclosure today and the guy i bought it off has a one year old spotted python it it just looked way bigger then mine did. is this normal? it is still housed in a clic clack.. should i be putting him in a new enclosure? is its size about right for hes ages?
thanks
shane

A spotted fed more or on bigger food Items will be bigger.
If it looks healthy and eats for you when it settles down, don't worry about how big it is now. Just don't feed it pinky mice all its life.

sounds the same as my childrens. he is still on pinky mice cuz he won't eat two items at one time and won't take anything bigger yet. he is still small compared to my spotted of the same age. just try offering him two mice per feed every 7 to 10 days instead of just one. that should bump up his growth :)

the guy at the pet shop 'thought' he was feeding it fuzzies he didnt sound to sure. so i bought a bag of fuzzies. could he be mistaken and still be on pinkies? should i give that a shot if it hasnt eaten fuzzies over the next week? thanks :)

if it doesn't take it within the next week or so i would try a pinky and see what happens. if it takes it, then offer it two pinkies each feed to give it a little extra food.
maybe you could take a photo of the snake next to the food size you're trying and put it on here, and we can try and judge if it looks to big? lol might work....

i got my spotted python a week ago also and she is 11 months old at 56 cm roughly the guy i got it off said he fed her pinkies but i got a bag of fuzzy's because i was told that it should be on fuzzy's by now..

i have offered it to her a couple of times now but still wont take it maybe still settling in to her new home.

well this was interesting i got out a mouse and the snake out of the cage so i could take a photo. i just laid the mouse on the table and him next to it
and he decided he was hungry all of a sudden haha. and started to eat it. he seemed to get it down no problem. here are so pics

ive got a warm end of 30 degrees out side the hide (hides on warm end)
and a cooler end of 25 degrees
yeah he is really small but he looks really healthy in IMO
if he keeps feeding well on that size will he catch up on hes size?

i also wonder if the reptile shop owner got the age wrong maybe ? i might ring to confirm some dates he should have kept a record? he kinda went off the top of hes head.
is it unhealthy its that small?

ahahaha! i'm a genius. i made your snake feed... lol jks. thats good that its feeding though. were you offering with tongs the first time. cuz my guess is since its a pet shop snake, they don't have time to sit there and wiggle miceys, they would normally just dump the mouse in and go.
food size looks good though. maybe if it will eat two at a time, or just feed it more often. my little spotted (45cm, 11 months old) eats two hopper mice or two pinky rats per feed.
spotteds, as a general rule, are normally pretty voracious feeders. my two have never knocked back a feed. infact i nearly lost my leg the other night.... lol

do not fret. snakes grow at different rates depending on what they're fed how much how often. your snake will be perfectly healthy, will just do some catching up now that he is a very caring home by the looks of things.
you could bump your hot end up by 2 degrees that could help with his food response too.
just try feeding him again in 5 days now, and then maybe try two mice? if he takes two then don't feed him for another 8 days or something like that.
but i wouldn't be worried. he seems to have settled in nicely!!
