Hi All,
we are just newbies at the whole snake thing, but I just gave my 18 month old carpet pythong a large rat, and just realised I may have jumped from small to large rats (without going medium)...I'm worried its too big for him, but he's almost swallowed it...should I be worried if it's too big? can it cause him problems?

snake is about 1.2 metres, and about 4cm across said rat is about 5-6 cms across

get some pics up,that way we can see your python ..... ;)

Dont mean to be rude, but I got a laugh out of your post handsup.... 'PYTHONG' hahahahaha ...

Here is my then 8mnth old Darwin eating an almost adult rat. I was worried too at the time but he ate it ok. Cut his food back a bit since then as he was shedding too often.

How did you go Handsup, did your snake get the rat down ok?

Your python will be fine with a feed that size.
If he has started to swallow it already it will be fine.
It will just take a bit longer than usual to digest (obviously)

If the rat is to big for the snake they wont eat it so dont worry if started to swallow it will be fine might take over a week to digest it fully but will be fine

You might not even get a strike if the food is too big - I had the same issue.
