his last shed was very messy all in pieces but it would of been, with out lookin at my records at least 6-8weeks ago.. will go check that now... i was thinkin maybe due for shed....

ok checked and he shed on the 25/11/09 his eyes are clear though but he has gone off his meals a little so maybe it is a shed... but it does look sore..

Often dry, patchy sheds can cause irritation to the scales leaving them prone to infection. Most commonly on the belly scales. I've had this problem twice in 2009, with 2 different jungles. In both cases they quickly went into another slough cycles and it cleared up alot with another shed, and 2 sheds later back to 100%

Did you see his belly in that area between the period he soaked and the last shed? When did you first notice anything od about his belly? Is he eating?

Best thing is usually to get some antiseptic cream and whipe that over the affected area, otherwise keep him dry til his next shed. HOWEVER, without seeing the snake and without knowing that this is the problem it's difficult to give advice on a forum.

I'd strongly reccomend getting him to a vet ASAP. Keep him dry and clean until you see a vet, then take the advice the vet gives you.

not delayng takin him to the ve or anywhere for that matter... it comes down to when i can get him to the vet... and if thats the best advice you have then why bother.....

'we will take him to teh vet soon' suggests ur putting it off for some reason even though u know hes in pain.
i was just trying to understand why u know hes sore but are asking advice from a forum that cant offer proper advice without seeing it.

im glad im not ur snake. :(

thanks contagion.. will do all of what you suggested... he has a messy shed as i mentioned but i checked him over and seemed to have completely shed... only noticed the raised scales in the past week and have been checkin him daily as i thought he is soakin way to much so have been keepin close eye on him... will take his tub out and put in smaller water container.... dont know why i didnt think to do that a couple days ago... i have some antiseptic cream so will apply that... he is eatin though he ate monday night not as much as usual but he did eat...
thanks
shelly

if u think hes sore why would u delay takling him to the vet?

I think what Chris is saying is a fair comment,.
If you can see he is in pain, wouldnt you be best to get him to a vet asap,. this doesnt look like something that has just occured over night?,. you say he seems to have gone off his meals a little? when is the last time he ate?

What do you mean by 'it comesdown to when I can get him to the vet?'
Is the issue transport or what?

Sorry not trying to be rude,. just trying to get a better understanding of the situation,..

sorry I type too slow,. so he ate on Monday?,. how do you mean he has gone off his food then?

I wouldnt be applying any anticeptic cream,. I would be getting some advice from the vet first,..

as i said he didnt eat as much as he usually does but he did eat.... vet has been called and appt for him made... As suggested by gecko antispetic cream wont be applied.... and really i asked for advice out of pure concern for my snake, i dont know if he is in pain i stated he looks sore... i also never stated i was puttin a vet off only that i would take him to vet when i could/soon..

Guys, in all fairness, its not as thought vets will drop everything and see someones pet unless it is a life and death situation. Why not give her the benefit of the doubt and realise that maybe Shelly has booked an appointment with the vet for the soonest appointment available. Not only that, but taking her snake to just any vet might not help the situation. We all know that there are few vets around that are any good with herps, and that's why people ask for advice on this forum... because their are some very knowledgable and experienced people on here...

im glad im not ur snake. :(

That seems like a rather unfair comment too me!
No wonder people are afraid to ask for help on here!!

Shelly as contagion has said keep him out of the water bowl and as dry as possible until you find out what the problem is as if its a fungus or bacteria soaking in the water could spread this to other areas
best of luck

For member criticizing in this forum about animals not to be taking to vet instantly.

Why you assuming that the member don't want to take snake to vet? there is no suggestion from his post that he is not willing to do that.

Your post is not helping than it is not welcome in herp help forum.
If you can't help or identify the problem, please don't post to this forum.

post about his problem was posted after 5pm and You have no idea what is the reason for snake not being seen by the vet instantly minutes after post was published.

Please don't post to help herp forum posts with criticism instead the help.

Contagion reply is the right response to help. He advised to take animal to vet and try to find about the animal situation and help.
Any other bikering is just plain stupid.

Hi There

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a competent vet around the brisbane area???

thanks everyone for your advice and support.. it was a genuine question out of concern for my snake... as it is we are off to vet(karingal vets, Frankston) to see Shane tomorrow... was the earliest appt i could get... i have been recommended to on several occasions that Karingal is one of the best herp vets in the area so am sure he will put us on the right track... i took on all advice, have removed water tub and replaced with small bowl that BB cant soak in.. i really appreciate the advice and very much appreciate the people who understand that it was not so simple to just pick BB and rush off to vet, i know enough about animals to know that the problem at this stage was not at all life threatenin, and am of the thinking i have done the right thing by posting on a knowledgeable forum with many experienced herpers as well as contacting the vets to ask for advice.. i have also been assured that the problem will be seen to tomorrow and all remedies taken to treat BB and help him to get better soon.....

this is a valuable forum and as a newbie who loves her pets one welcomes a forum such as this to seek advice from etc etc.... i must admit i felt like deleting the post and never asking a question again..
cheers
and thanks again
shelly and BB

Personally I think the only silly question is the one not asked!
Push through the few people who jump to conclusions and you will find kindhearted ones who are happy to offer you their words of wisdom.

Shelly you did not retaliated and there for you showed who have more brains in this situation.
There was only one post out of order and that person is suspended now.

Yes there is lot of idiots thinking that they have licence to criticize.
That is not what herp help forum is about ,and I instructed moderators to be more strict in moderating this forum.

If you like to post here, help with constructive advice or stay out.
