I've found some info on the dosage rates for Ivomec, but am having trouble with the conversions. One site says 5mg to one quart of water, now is 5mg milligrams or micrograms?

This is for reptile treatment of mites, in spray form.

Update I just found more info..

half a millilitre of Ivomec, to one litre of water.

Talk to your vet, that way you get an expert opinion, they should be able to calculate dosage rates!

just saw my local vet and she recommended using advocate (dog flea treatment) before using ivemec. advocate is apparently okayed for use on snakes just doesnt say on the packet

you would have to see the vet for dosage rates though. i had to use .2 ml on my 600g snake

I have used a drop of 'frontline" dog flee treatment to kill mites when I only had a few snakes. Now if i get a problem, which has been a couple of years i use orange medic at 50:1. Its about $10 from any chemist for enough to do hundreds of snakes. Permoxin works fine but is a little dearer and harder to come by.

Go to your local pharmacy get a human lice treatment called NIX 30gr 5% cream.

Mix that tube with 4L of water, shake vigiorously. It will turn a milky white.

Spray the snake and cage liberaly every 3-4 days.

Here is where I picked up on it after a mite accident 2 years ago,

http://www.albertareptilesociety.org/caresheet/Onix.pdf

Iv presented the method to several friend with extensive and collections with fast turnover(in out) of animals and ALL has had immidiate good results, no mites.

The local vet isnt much help..

One vet I used told me I could have free Ivomect for my reptiles if I researched it properly. Eventually I decided it was not the appropriate product to be treating captive reptiles with. Ivomectin is a treatment primarily for the treatment of parasitic worms such as tapeworm.
I use Permoxin' for mites, which can be purchased from your local vet. It comes in a concentrate and will last a long long time.

my snake had round worm once from eating a small bird ivomectin was used in the smallest dose. my snake is 2 kg and got 1 dose of 0.06ml initally
and the same 2 weeks later. iam not sure of the strenghth though.

its not worth messing with and not recommended by the makers of ivermectin to be used on reptiles. my mate lost all 5 of his carpets that were injected with it . i dont have any experience using it as a spray though.
cheers

If you do choose to use Ivermectin (I have used it as a spray and was very happy with it at a dose rate suggested by Dr Mark Simpson) be aware that it has a very short half life (about 20 minutes). This means that 20 minutes after you mix it it is at half strength, 20 minutes later its 1/4 strength and so on. So use it immediately and only mix up small batches.
