Howdy all, don't really know if i should be stressing but my jungle python is not eating. when i chuck a rat in his enclosure (thawed, fresh killed or live) he attacks it wraps around it then leaves it this has been going on for probz couple months now.. Should i be worried or just keep persisting with it?

Cheers Dukz

Something in his enclosure is not right or something is missing probably, maybe try for a small part of the enclosure a heat mat so he can keep warm a bit and make sure he has places to hide and lots of artificial plants to make him feel more secure and at home, some vines/ logs to climb on... Maybe also try one of those natural looking waterbowls, for a substrate try using fake grass- you can get it from bunnings. I hope this gave you some ideas, but normally if a snake doesnt eat for that long (except for winter) somethings missing or not right in the enclosure. Good Luck :)

haha oh dear he has just made a liar out of me and ate it lol :-s well he has plenty of hides and vines and rocks, his temp is 32 degrees at hot end, i use the kitty crumble substrate

Well his temps sound ok. I dunno about up there, but the weather down here has been wacko lately hot one day freezing cold the next then hot again, if it's same there it could be why.

Well next time dont stress and you will know your jungle will eat when its ready 2 months without feeding is nothing for a snake they are very resilient animals

One of my childreni used to do the same thing, what i did was as soon as he took the mouse I'd cover his tub with a dark sheet and he soon got over his problematic feeding

Maybe try take him out on the sun for half an hour for a few days? I take mine on the sun everyday (well try to) lol, i dont know really if it has an affect but its worth a try :)

ON the sun? Maybe IN the sun would be enough!

Also, for the op......noone else has mentioned it yet, however we all know live feeding isnt recommended. Glad it ate, hopefully you wont resort to live feeding again though. (if only for the well being of your animal)

Hahaha yes IN the sun is what I meant :)

Sounds like you're overfeeding. He's 'killing' but not eating, because he doesn't need to. How often do you attempt feeding?
