I think my neighbour might have one of them. They are the fluffiest dogs you will ever see!! It is a nice calm dog tho

Or if you have your heart set on a certain breed, you've done your research and know the breeds requirements and who they're suitable for, and you find a good reputable breeder that has healthy animals with any appropriate tests performed to minimise the incidence of some hereditary problems, go ahead with the breed you want! Dogz online is a great website, as has been linked above. Goodluck :)

or you could adopt a dog that really needs a home and in most cases its life depends on it =] im a big believer in adopting rescues over over priced 'pure breeds'. Youll never find a more loyal dog then one you saved from the pound

Trust me, I'm actually the same, though you now probably don't think so :) All of my pets have been adopted or rescued and rehabilitated, comes with being a vet student I think haha. But honestly if someone is really set on getting a certain breed, and are willing to do all the right things- if someone then convinced them to get a different breed, or a dog they didn't really want, in all reality it may just end up being more likely to end up homeless again, if its not what suited the owner. And you can also get some 'problematic' dogs from pounds, shelters, rescued etc that come with 'unknown problems' or burdens for an unwary new owner. Many can be corrected with a lot of patients, care and knowing, but it can cause issues.

And no you don't have to agree with me, its all just based on my opinions and experiences :)

Regardless, to the original poster- goodluck with whichever dog you get :)

This will be the first dog for our family we have been looking into getting a dog for 3 years now. So as you see not going to rush in and just get the first dog I see the keeshond is our choice now to find one lol.

i have one at home, she is awesome. They are very needy as in always have to be right by your side. malibu is my girlfriends dog, and if my girlfriend is home malibu is right by her side all the time. if she even goes to the toilet she sits outside and waits.lol great dog though, drops next to no hair, very very smart. if you pm me i can send you the details of the breeder we got ours from. They arnt cheap but definetly worth it and she will ship from nsw. Im in adelaide and she sent her down to us. You can check her facebook to and she has photos of all the puppies she breeds then the photos of the same dog as an adult. good to see the outcomes aswell.

im not by anymeans trying to start trouble, just seems everyone wants people to buy dogs from the pound and my staffy x ridgeback i did go get from the pound and to be honest when the time comes and she passes away id Have no problem spending 30k to get her cloned ( ethics aside for now), but pure breeds from a breeder are awesome. you know the blood lines and about possible illness that could follow and that if your getting a breed with possible aggression e.g. bull msatiff or pitbull that it hasnt been abused.. Go with a breeder if thats what you are keen on. just my opinion not trying to upset anyone.. :)
