We've seen a few 1ft long baby brownies kicking around the Mouse/Rat Houses in the last couple of weeks. Just made lots of noise and they've taken off. My boy cats have had a close look at em, but have chased em off. Cheers Cherylxxxx

RE: Last Year

Go brownies! You take care of that evil evil feline foe!!!

RE: Last Year

Yeah Sdaji, bugga the Cats! If poss. I try to deter them. Now and again one of them brings in a little Bat! As if they don't get fed enuf??? Come dusk, nearly dark, there are heaps and heaps of Bats around here. Very small, no bigger than a mouse?? Are they native or what?? Cheers Cheryl

RE: Last Year

Yeah, little native insectivorous bats :) Very cool! I nearly smacked one with the car a few nights ago in Warrandyte! Came about 2 inches from the windscreen.

RE: Last Year

Yeah Dave had to bring in the long handled net to catch one last year that one of the cats had brought in and let go. That was in the middle of the night. Battie flying around in the middle of the night! there are heaps of em here, eh? Dusk? If you go out there then, sh..loads of em! Soooo tiny! We also have those Marsupial Mice here too! they have a full set of teeth, and a pouch. Cheers

RE: Last Year

ive found afew dead tiny bats on the side of the road, very weird looking. anyone know how far they fly from their roost(if they have one)? i think i know where it is but im not willing to got down

Most likely one of the micro bat species like the Gould's wattle bat, they're very common all around Oz. Nest in tree hollows and often turn up in firewood, could easily be 40 or more in a piece of wood that'll fit in your fireplace.
Before you go touching any bat or flying fox you need to be aware of the chances of contracting a little bug called lyssavirus.

Man i would love to c one of those bats,... AND i want a lil marsupial mouse, they look very cool.

Oh and just remembered those Marsupial Native Mice are called Dunnarts. Cheers

Dunnarts are only one type of marsupial 'mice'. I found one (a common dunnart) in a trap near Walpeup a few months ago on a field trip and the lecturer made everyone wake up at 6am to see it! Everyone was pissed off with me! :( ah well, it's rare for me to be up that early and if I am, everyone else should be too
