they are great looking monitor, sad they are being treated as a pest.
 
It sounds very much as if the lax laws regarding what the yanks can keep as pets is literally going to turn around and bite them. (Literally!)

It would be a shame to see the fragile and interesting eco systems in Florida changed forever by introduced species.

On the plus side the burms and Nile Monitors do not breed as quickly as cane toads so this introduces the chance of bringing them under control.

true. But they have to actually do it and you have to include the fact that people are proberly still releasing them.

Also Florida has an introduced population of cane toads to contend with as well http://www.wec.ufl.edu/extension/frogs/default.htm#
