hi
im making a levis enclosure and found a plastic container in my house that is 2ftx1ft but only 15cm high. theres is going to be a hole on one end for ventilation and the substrate there wont be more that 3cms.
so my question is could a levis somehow climb or jump 12cms in the air?

as stupid as that sounds i wont to be sure it wont somehow escape

thanks,
sam

I doubt that they would be able to climb that height, but they will need more than 3cm of sand for them to build a descent burrow.

yeah one end is going to be 15cms high and the other (the one with the hole) 3cms

I wouldn't be suprised if a female levis escaped in a corner with only 12 cms, if they have anything to hop on say a log or hide and its close to the side of the tub id say they would find a way.

get some aluminium fly screen, cut to size and solder it over... Cheap and easy, that way any left over woodies or crickets wont find theyre way out either..

It will easilly shuffle the sand around and could escape,. I would get a higher container or get a lid,.
Some people dont use lids,. I do , and I am glad I do as I came home last night to find one of my BHP's had pushed its way out of its enclosure,.. AHHHHHH

where there's a will there's a way.
i wouldn't risk it, maybe instead of one hole for ventaltion you could drill a series of small holes along it or cut out a section and replace the plastic with fly mesh as sugeested

I agree, some of mine build mountains overnight, they are amazingly adept at moving sand despite their somewhat fragile looking legs.
