hi ppl just wondering if i can get some advice? i got a tank setup for a stimpsons with a thermostat to control his temp i keep it round about 30 degrees i have tryed timing it so it will go off at night but has no luck can i keep his light on at night at 30 degrees or no???

its best to leave the heat on all night, but make sure its red or blue light and not a basking light

ok so the the red or blue acts as night does it?

yes

i use my red/blue lights for day time aswell so im no switching lights on and off all the time

oh ok and does ur tank stay at 30degrees at night as well?

In the wild any reptile will not maintain 30 no matter where it lives
Mine have the option of 26/30 if they want it
Then they have the option of 20/26 in the fanned area
Unless just before shedding or after a feed they prefer the cooler areas most of the time
They go outside virtually every day so get plenty of direct sunlight when they want it
But even outside they may lie in the sun for a hour or so but then back under cover
They are very responsive and love being handled etc
But if they were kept at one temperature I think they would feel uncomfortable when removed from that "Security Blanket"
Imitating their preferred natural habitat/temperature works well for me
Remember that even Darwin can drop 15 degrees at night

its not 30 all round i got a basking area and a cool area my thermo monitors 30 up 1 end .
my question was can i leave my light on at night on the thermo stat?

you can leave the heat light on 24/7. the thermostat will control the heat so you dont cook your snake

have you tried not using a thermostat but using a lower wattage globe and by adjusting the distance between the light and the basking site you can get an accurate and constant temp.. although at night it may lose a few degrees but i would like to see you find a place in the wild that has a basking site at 30 degrees 24/7 its normal for the temp to drop a couple of degrees at night.. just a suggestion..

try a ceramic for heat and a uv fluro for day light, fluro of course on a timer
