Good Morning guys.. i need a little advice on my partners pygmy stimi if i could?

we have had him about 3 months now and he has always fed like a champ. I noticed him starting to dull up a few weeks ago followed by alot of hiding. lastnight checked on him and he had lifting eye caps and all the skin around his top lip was all lifting, i'd say around 4:36 yesterday arvo. This morning he still has not shed and has only managed to lift a small portion from above his head and a small section on his tail. Young randall has trashed his click clack so my very limited detective skills tell me its not for lack of trying that he hasnt been able to get his old jacket off. o_0

I have never had a python have a bad slough before and am not sure the course of action as he is very skittish and stressed atm. ( not a great handler ) my other pythons are very neat and slough almost to the day and are kept in the same contitions. ??

.H/E: 34 C/E: 26

Chuck him in a tub with tepid water about an inch deep and stick a lid on it so he can't escape. If he's really placid you can have a go at helping him pull it off but make sure he's had a nice soak first to get it all soft and loosened.
Has it been really dry in Adelaide? I didn't think Ants had many problems shedding considering how dry their natural climate is.

EDIT: Sorry just read the bit about not being a great handler. If he has a good enough soak on his own he should be able to get it off himself with the first method I suggested.

tepid water? thanks saximus, cheers for the quick reply aswell. ill get straight on to it.

No problem :). Tepid is about body temperature. If it feels warm to you then it's too hot. If you've got a thermometer go for something around 25-30°. Good luck

awesome will do. ive got an atc300 for fishtanks so ill use that. Thanks again mate. APS saves the day again.. :)

Astro turf has really good grip underneath. Our bhp uses this to get his old suit off. The darwins rub on a piece of limestone. I doubt newspaper or plastic would help much. Maybe put something a bit rough in that he can catch the slough on?

Ive got some 60 grit sand paper?? lol i joke. I might try the astro turf. Ill swing through bunnings tonight and grab some. i just need the unlooped stuff right?? thanks for the tip. :)

Do your bhps shed clean each time? i have a mate who has an adult pair maybe 4/5 years old and they always shed average. not to sure if its conditions or just the snakes itself.

my stimson did this once as humidity was too low, i soaked him in the water for 20mins then left him inside a roughish table cloth on my lap to keep the warmth for another 15 min, while he moved around most of shed came off, once repeated again all the shed came off and as i wasnt physically using my hands alot or pulling at the skin he seemed to stay calm and actually enjoyed it - well he looked like he had smiles afterwards :) i have since added an extra water bowl that sits over part of heat mat when he goes into shed mode and along with misting once a day all sheds have been spot on. Goodluck
