There's a few reason why people don't have live plants...breeding ground for mites...they die...snakes trample them...humidity goes crazy...the smell (of some plants)...maintanence...the list goes on.

I have a ''chinese lucky bamboo'' in a bowl of water and sphagnum moss'' which is hardy and looks good, it also helps keep the humidity a little up as our fireplace tends to dry the air out.It doesn't seem to create any problems so far, ferns would quickly be crushed I would think. But as sxe pointed out you have to ensure they are not becoming breeding grounds for mites or bacteria.

Hi Ash, there is some awesome fake plants around- as well as rock hides and stuff. I use real limbs with fake branches and silk leaves, and from a personal point of view I reckon looks great and quite realistic!

I've heard the same stories that Sxe & Parko have mentioned, and it sounds like it may be good advice to steer your mate away from going too 'natural'.

Hey Zoe/Parko where do you get that bomboo from? Does it grown very fast like normal bamboo?

Regards Ether

It doesn't seem to grow very quickly, but is real hardy, just add a little fertilizer to the water occasionally. I use fish emulsion for a natural alternative so it shouldn't hurt the snake if it was inclined to drink from the water. Also doesn't like to much sun.

when looking at plants talk to the plant poeple at bunnings. Put water bamboo in the beacuse it doesn't grow to quick and it can handle heat. Thats the other thing you need to consider becasue some plants don't like heat.

also if you get two plants you can take one out and swap them weekly, helps keep the plant alive and you can stick it in the sunlight when it's not in the cage. No sunlight can kill the plant.

we had ours in soil...and sorry fuscy but i killed it lol. but that was purely thru my inability to keep any plant alive anywhere. im gonna give it another go soon because the humidity in our cages seems to be getting scarily low recently. might try them in water also. it grew pretty quickly in the soil! its great because it is strong enough to hold them up when they sit on it too :) and it really makes the cage look awesome

Would the humidity get to high for a Bredli?

doubt it, keep a eye on it, nothing stopping you from taking the plant away for a few days at any stage
