Hi guys...
I am curious to know if anybody uses lizzards to get rid of cockroaches and other bugs in their house or flat...?
Not that I am interested but we are infested by roaches and beetles and I joked "We should get a lizzard like people get a cat to get rid of mice". My wife said it could be a good idea, after all... So I am asking.. just in case someone else thought about it too...
Thank you...
Yann.

The thing is I don't really like pesticides in my place, I've got a Murray Darling and she roams free sometimes...
And my wife is really anti-killing any kind of animal (even roaches...! she'd rather catch and send them free...!) unless it's natural (like a lizzard feeding on roaches...!)
I thought it would never work, but I thought I'd ask...
My teachers always told me there are no stupid questions...!!

Thanks guys...!

catch them and set them free wow she the 1st person ive known 2 not want 2 kill roaches lol

If you consider insects to be a pest asian house geckos will virtually wipe them out. Around my place they have had a massive impact on insect populations(my lizards food) so that have taken the place of the insects. In an urban environment the "natural" ecosystem doesnt exist, but im sure the little things are causing some animals trouble, while at the same time i would expect many species to increase in population with the abundance of tasty geckos.

the best solution is to make your house secure so roaches cant get in, you can also use residual surface sprays such as cislin(?) any pest control mob should be able to help you.

Reece, I promise you she's a fine Irish specimen...!! And don't try arguing with her...
She wouldn't kill roaches... She even gives them names like "Pete" or whatever else...!
The problem with setting them free is that those *******s fly back in before we can even close the windows...!!
I don't mind them, I know they're harmless but I am sick of being surprised by them a 5.30am on the bathroom floor when I'm barely awake and looking for the shower...!

And I don't think I would label them "pests". As I said they're harmless to us and they're doing some good in the house eating other insects which could be more nasty to us and our place...
As mentioned in my first post, I thought I'd ask if anybody ever thought of it...

Thanks everyone...
Yann.

Sorry for the stared word....!!

I voted yes, but you have to catch the bugs/spiders yourself first. Also there is a small risk they may carry parasties or toxic chemicals that can harm your lizards. If there are no poisions used near by it should be fairly safe though.

You could buy a roach trap from the Herp Shop and then release them under <insert person you hate here>'s door. :)

do those traps work well? i was thinking of getting some, i think they might get AHGs too as a bonus. I was thinking of making a simlar trap for geckos but the effort involved would be too much for me.

all you need is one or a couple of insects that have consumed poisons from a neighbors yard and bye bye lizard!

...most really relevant points have been brought up ie. pesticides and the like...

...but how on earth could you possibly manage the setup? You would just have a Beardie or the like roaming free-range in your house 24/7? Logistically using a lizard in an attempt to combat insect levels seems impossible - you would also have lizard crap in the carpet and that's just manky! ;)

If i see a cockroach in the house i wont kill it, cleaning up the mess afterwards is far more desgusting than seeing the roach itself.
