I am looking for a first snake ( Childrens) and would like advice on whats available, am intending to buy end of April. I take on board all advice and would appreciate your experiences and knowledge so I do not make problems for myself. Can anyone assist?

first snake

Hey Mate, my first snake was a diamond, straight from the egg she was the most placid I've ever had, Just bred my first clutch of diamonds this year and all calm and placid, I've bred childrens and stimies the last few years and have to say they are a bit snappy for a while till they settle down, very good escape artist too. Diamonds love the cool weather, I keep mine outside all year exept the really hot days here in sydney, need the uv though. Is it the size that attracts you to the childrens? Even murrays or bredli are good tempered snakes, get a bit larger though. What ever you decide on you will love, all good...all the best.:D

You will find adverts for some on the HerpTrader listings.;) http://www.herptrader.com.au

Then if you go to the 'links and caresheet' button on the left of the HerpTrader website you will find one on: "Captive Breeding and Husbandry of Children's Pythons by Brian Barnett

Thanks for your response. I have bought a Bredli for my sons 18th birthday and am looking at a BHP for myself. A diamond would be a second choice, jeez I like them all. Sorry for my slow response as I am often away for work.

My first was a yearling BHP and he was great, never gave us a problem.
Just got our 2nd last week, 2 month old diamond, and she has been excellent so far as well.
Both very gentle and relaxed individuals, both great eaters.
Would recomend either one.

Dude my suggestion is a young coastal or diamond python. They are great snakes, have good temperment, can look fantastic and won't set you back heaps of money! :)

Congrats!;)

Curious...Did you buy the Bredli from a breeder or a pet shop?

all the best!
