I have had a gorgoues male blue cattle x kelpie adopt our house as his own. Unfortunately we are unable to keep him, but I think that he has been mistreated with his last owners. He is very scared, but you can tell that he really wants to be friendly and have cuddles. He is not in the least bit vicious (I have had my 2 1/2 yr old son out in the backyard with him and he is extremely gentle). I don't want to take him to my local pound (Blacktown Council) as they have a 7 day kill policy :( , and it goes against every grain in my body to take him somewhere that will put him down unless I have done everything in my power to attempt to find him a suitable loving home.
If there is anyone in this animal-loving community who has a place in their homes (and hearts) for this very nice looking dog, please let me know as it will only be so long before the council workers discover him and take him to the pound.
Thanks
Mel

Hey Newto snakes. I have been through this with a stray dog a coupel of years ago. Firstly, you are not allowed to keep a stray dog!!! I know this sounds stupid but it is the law. When ours turned up we took it to a vet to get him microchipped and he said that if we give the dog to him he has to give it to the pound. What we had to do was:

1. Check to see if the dog is microchipped
2. If it is, contact the owner (of course)
3. If it isn't then you must take it to the pound
4. If you want to own it then you can buy it off them after a week. (this cost us $190 incl microchipping)
5. If you don't buy it (or someone else) then yes, they kill it.

So, if you find an owner, best to take the dog to the pound and let the new people get it form the pound.

Cheers

Peter
