so i have one of these thermostats, it's pulse proportional, and the little black rubber bit came off the end of the temp probe. it now has a wire exposed. it seems to be still controlling the temps, as i have moved the probe away from the heat source and back again and the dimming light changes colour.

is this still safe to use this way? no animals can touch the exposed wire, it's controlling a rack system

can i wrapp it with electrical tape to repair it?

cheers

I would wrap it in some sort of rubber tape, or maybe even in some "silly" putty which is an excellent sealant and also transmits temperature well. It shouldn't be exposed like that, since the air/moisture could possibly corrode the wires.

For what it's worth, I have the MicroClimate B1 myself, it's currently unused but I may decide to use it with my rack system instead of the HabiStat one I use now.

The B1 is actually a dimmer stat. The HabiStat that runs my rack system is actually a pulse proportional stat, and I believe the dimmer stats are a class above the pulse proportional stats, since they moderate the temperatures in a smoother fashion.

use some good Qlty shrink wrap, can get it at most electrical supply shops etc, easy as,,,,, i use it on my cables etc when i need to tidy things up,

+1 on the shrink wrap. I use it to I'd different circuits when u have a mess of cables and to tidy up

Just a though. Try to get the heat shrink with the glue in it. Makes a better weatherproof seal for humidity or urate.
