Hi all ,i carnt get my 7ft carpet to eat, have tried now for the last 4 weeks but he's just not interested.the last couple of days his belly has been as pink as pink, the way it goes after he eats, does anyone have any idea why it would be going pink if he's not eating?

im not worried about him not eating yet, even tho it was late may last time he ate, as he needed to lose about half a kilo

phantom,
male carpets often go off their food while they are in breeding mode, they sometimes won't eat until the breeding season is well and truly passed. The pink scales on the belly could indicate a mild infection, just keep an eye on them if the scales become puffy and start to discharge fluid, thats when you'll need to get some antibiotics into it. Most of the time though minor scale problems will clear up with a few sheds. So long as the snake isn't losing too much weight I'd say he's just going through his normal hormonal cycle.
Regards,
Splitmore

just noticed his eyes are all clouded up ,and he's not allowed to get an infection as he has had too many injections of antibioticsthis year already for his mouth rot ,which is all clear now thank god

now just sit back and wait till he sloughs and then once the skin is off, feed him up!!

I did not fed my adult males for 2 months now mate. They don't need to eat all the time.

that pink is because he is about to slough, my old coastal used to do that and my male diamond also goes a bit pink when he sheds and feeds.

I haven't fed mine for almost 5 months...and won't for another month or so.

As long as we're on the topic, my girl ball python just ate a rat last night for the first time in 11 months. I was starting to get a little worried. Still don't know what her problem was, but you know she never lost any weight or condition. Even still, hope she doesn't repeat that little stunt.

As for your carpet phantom, I've never seen the flushing that you're talking about, but it was always my understanding that this was a temporary thing lasting a for only a few minutes during (after?) feeding. A few things that come to mind would be to check heat levels if you use undertank heater or make sure floor of cage is clean and doesn't have any residue from cleaning chemicals or the like.

Good to see you back with us again, Al! Or have you just been quietly lurking??

... we thought you might have had an accident with that big gun of your! :)

HI Almaron I missed you.
I have one female diamond and she is not eating each year for 6 months. She have great condition and no weight loss.
I have been told by expert that carpets do not eat more than 3 times a year in wild.
That is giving me indication that my girl can be ilegally taken from wild and sold to me as captive. But that is just my theory.
One thing for sure, adult snakes shut down and not eat for long periods sometimes.

Yess Inny. And man who told me this was well known authority. He will have speach on sunday in Sydney Wild expo.

I took a carpet from a mate of mine that hadn't eaten in over 12 months. It is about 6-7ft long and weighs in at only 1 kilo. I have tried every trick in the book and almost every type of food source for the guy but he won't eat. I have had him for about 6 or 7 months now and he has eaten maybe 4 or 5 weaner rats and that was all within 2 weeks of getting him.
I've now had to resort to force feeding as if I don't he will surely die :( . He has in the last two weeks been force fed 8 adult mice. I will continue to do this till he gets his appetite back. He has had a vet check and has been wormed etc.
I think he has a case of anorexia, he just won't eat.
Hopefully he will get better soon though.

a shame to hear that Huggy Bear, fingers crossed for you here mate. Hey where do you live by the way?

Hey all. It has been awhile hasn't it? Truth is I've been in rehab for the last several months trying to kick my crack and heroin problem. It hasn't been easy but, I'm much better now. I can make it all the way 'till noon before my fix these days. I haven't felt this in contol since I was seven. Yes life is good.
