hey there to all who can help me my 2 1/2 month old female bearded dragon maybe sick not to sure but from when i first purchased her she was the most lively little thing ever loves to be handle and shes really really kind and always first at the food bowl, but lately shes seems abit upset not eating much well just a little and not very active and shes always closing her eyes like shes really tired but i cant see how she could be? im really worried and i dont want anything to happen to her, her temps are right her tank is always cleaned and her food/water dishes are always cleaned i also spray her daily but not to sure if i should be when shes like this? plus i bath her every 3 to 4 days along with her best mate who is also the same age and his fine and is very very lively, im not to sure if i might be over feeding i do feed her alot well before all this started and she always looks so chubby and cute but i only feed her upto as much as she wants most times, can someone help me please it would mean so much thanks :(

are you using a uvb 10.0 bulb? if so try a 5.0. some of my hatchies this year really didnt like the 10.0, and had the same kind of behaviours you describe ( esp the closing the eyes and seeming tired) as soon as i changed the globe they were back to normal in under a day, and eating properly the next

Try and bath her once a week maximum. I may cause respitory infections

make sure your dusting her food and giving her uv and take her out in the real sun for about half an hour in your hands or in a cage but make sure half sun half shade

I have the same behaviour from my 2 month old bearded at the moment. Im thinking of increasing the UV intake will hopefully set him straight. The weather has been pretty cold here in Melbourne the last week, and I was a bit worried he was thinking it was brumation time :(

Is she housed with another beardie? What are her temps? What are you feeding? Is she pooping?

Ajandj asked what I was going to ask!

If she is with another beardie in the same enclosure, there is your answer. Stress. Plain and simple. You NEED to keep dragons separate, especially at that age, as one will become more dominant, therefore stressing the other out to the point it will become quite unwell. Oh, and with stress, intimidation etc, there may not be any physical, outward signs of it - until you start to see what you're seeing now...

If you could answer a few questions for us, we will be able to help you a lot easier!

1. How big is the enclosure?
2. Is the animal housed with others in the same enclosure?
3. What type/brand is your UV, and how old is it?
4. What do you have as substrate?
5. What is the animal being fed?

That will do for now - we should be able to get a clear picture from your answers!

Best,
Carolyn

thanks for the help and no shes fine with her other mate who is a male so im not goin to seperate them as they are happy and get along just fine they sleep togther and everything on the other hand my enclosure is a 3 and a half foot enclosure my uvb light is a 10.0 repti glo, the substrate im using is thin grass lining and i feed them fresh cos lettuce carrot corn meal worms (only like 3 a day per lizard) and crickets and i spray them daily aswell, shes been fine lately so im not to sure if i was just worried to much but yeah thanks to all.

firstly, 3 1/2 foot is no where big enough to house 2 dragons (in my opinion )
secondly, their diet needs a little adjusting. Personally l would change the lettuce, carrot, corn and mealies. There are better choices that are far better for your dragon. I have attached a food chart for you to look at. I feed the following daily. Endive, dandelion leaves and flowers, nasturtium flowers and leaves and beetroot leaves. To this l add things like, carrot greens, zuccini flowers, turnip greens, rocket, bok choy, celery leaves, pansy flowers, rose petals. Obviously l don't feed all these extras at the same time but normally l get the kids to pick most from the garden and they normally come back with about 8 or 9 things for Yoda to chow down on. Crickets, l feed daily at 4 months he was eating about 30 per feed (morning and night), small. Now he's about 12 months, he has about 20 per day of the mediums.
