i walk into my room somtimes to see my bearie trying to climb out of his glass enclosure by climbing the glass :S he also trys to push through the glass. is he unhappy or does it have something to do with his reflection or something?

we have one in our classroom and he does the same thing, i relised it was because he could see the mealworms that we give him and he was trying to get them

shes 23 cm in a 3 ft tank which im sure is big enough right? its two foot wide as well.
and her food is kept out of sight from the tank as well

I have two beardies and they also do this, they are naturally inquisitive and just like checking everything out. Ours is near the dinner table and trys to get at us while we ate and then sits near the glass looking at us when we move to the lounge. The male even sleeps leaning up on the wall balancing on his back legs sometimes.

if is normal behaviour then its fine
it just looks like its not happy :|

That sounds fine for her,i agree with marksmates they are really inquisitive so if i were you id put somthing nice smelling in there like just a small gum leaf branch it will keep him ocupied i would think good luck.

anything else that will keep her occupied? i still dont think its about curiousity. she genuinly looks like shes trying to get out and when i put her on the floor she pretty much always goes for the wall and trys to scale that :|

It is a wild animal
My beardie that loves handling and is very placid
i put her on the lawn the other day and she hissed at me and ran for it
my point is that it does not matter how good ur tank is set up these animal belong in the wild and will try to escape

substrate

for breeding crickets is it okay to use organic potting mix as substrate and breeding tubs that may have organic fertillizer additives in it and bacteria.

its only natural for any animal to want to escape its enclosure.

& no offence but why'd you post this in this thread. for your answer i use no substrate and put a small plastic container about 3cm high with peat moss in it for them to lay their eggs.

Contos, I don't have dragons but I'm a firm believer that an animal that tries to escape all the time is not a happy animal. I accept though that this could be a natural behaviour. The enclosure sounds big enough for its size for the moment. Could you make its environment more stimulating or get it some company?

I'm a strong supporter of outdoor enclosures for a variety of reasons where there is more room and fresh air. I have skinks and they never display that kind of behaviour. They're outdoors, have heaps of space and a natural environment.

If I was a little dragon in a small enclosure all by myself, I'd probably want to escape too

jewfish. i dont exactly want to keep them in an indoor enclosure i feel its a bit slack. ive been hounding my parents to let me build an outdoor enclosure but they wont let me and my house dosent get that much sun. ive got the 4ft tank split so 3 ft goes to the big one and im raising a hatchling in the other. id still like some tips on how to make the enclosure more stimulating if anyone has any? thanks

Mate, sure you're doing your best. Keep hounding the parents. In the mean time, I hope some beardie owners who've had a similar issue can assist you.

I think with all reptiles we should all try and create a natural environment by putting things in the enclosure that they would find in the wild. Obvious things like branches, rocks, plants and fresh water. Just wondering, maybe its too hot in the enclosure? Maybe thats why its trying to get out? Maybe a companion would help?

Hope you get some help in this forum

could she be trying to get to the Hatchling, thats just a though. several things might be causing this:
Female or Male?

Reflection
Trying to escape
Wonders why it cant go through the clear glass
wants to be handled more often
needs a bigger space
wants a friend
also looking for somewhere to lay, if the ground is not suitable and she has eggs(even infertile eggs) this could be causing her trying to get out to look for a suitable laying site. My bearded dragon did this, she was trying to climb the walls, i didnt know why, she dug through the leaves and laid 17 infertile eggs.. lucky she layed them there i guess.. i though she was just putting on weight...

If u want to make life more interesting dont forget they are semi-arboreal so put a few vines in there
when mine were young they used to sleep on the vine as high as they could get
first time they did this i freaked cos i could not find them, and their they were asleep right where the vine attached to the lid of the tank

stickytape some newspaper over the glass so it'll know something's there and not try to go through, remove after a while.
dragons should be kept alone as they see all other dragons as competitions not companions.

im trying to find it a companion its own age but i cant find anything for sale
the enclosures not too hot and it has plently of room to move and even climb n that.
i tried the stickytaped newspaper thing a while ago and she just went under it and kept running at the glass. its weird :S
