Hello,

I need help making a decision on wether or not to sell my diamond python pair.

They are a yr old and relatively placid (unless they are being fed :p). I am moving back to townsville from canberra and thought it would be best to sell them due to the heat and the fact that i'm going back to uni so between uni, my dog, my friends and my first python i'm worried I wont have the time to handle them as often as to keep them calm because I dont want a 6 foot pair of pythons I can't handle.

But now that i've found a keen buyer who wants to take them off my hands I dont know how i'll be able to part with them.

I cant make up my mind and while it makes sense to sell them (sorta) I think I would really enjoy keeping them especially once they are fully grown.

Has anyone got any input or have been in a similar situation?

It's really no ones choice but yours.

Only thing to ask yourself due to you moving and studying is do you have the time to take care of them? If not then do what's best for the animals...

They require 30 mins a week for care, how hard can that be.

Well if it wasn't so hard, it really wouldn't be a dilemma for her to post this thread now would it..?

Take them with you as long as are prepared to keep them in air con most of the time.
Have a chat to Melly88 on this site. She keeps and breeds diamonds, maybe she can guide you on how to keep them coolish.

Sorry guys I shoudl have phrased my question better. Has anyone been in this situation and sold their snakes only to regret it? Its not a dilemma as such just im a bit torn.

And dickyknee Ive already thought of messing the ptentional buyer around. So I contacted the breeder who I bought my snakes off this time last year and he has dimaonds for sale this yr as well so I can refer her to him as too not have wasted her time.

although i don't own a snake, if you have the time to make sure they are fed, the enclosure is kept clean, can handle them for around 30mins then that's about an 1hr on the days of feeding, cleaning and handling and then 30mins for just the other days.

could you spare that time?? i know it seems alot but they seem worth it

keep them i will never part with mine even if it cost me my life but thats just me

I sold something dear to my heart.. (no laughing)..but I did state I had visiting rights to my goat....I also stated that I wanted to keep in contact with the buyer and if I ever got back into the position where I could keep her then I had first option if the buyer ever wanted to sell
I hope this helps easy the pain...a little...I know in my case just driving by and seeing her made it OK...so maybe pics now and then will help.
Good Luck

I think you got a tad confused ..not 30 mins a day ...thats 30mins a week ...lambert

Be honest with yourself Eitak ..if you doubted your ability to full fill the needs of them and think selling is better then what your able to give, SELL THEM ...If you have ran it through your head and realised you may have been pushing the panic button early then keep them ..if you intend on having one ,well two more really arent much more looking after now ...be different if you had the likes of 10 or more ..but 3 really is do'able now ..

similar situation

Hey, Ive done two years of uni and am also doing full time training at the moment both of which have me two hours away from home.

I have a pair of spotted pythons which stay at my girlfriends house who looks after them and gets them out from time to time and i can honestly say they are worth keeping. I am so glad I still have my pair and can't wait till I can absolutely spoil them and have them out more often then what they get now...

In saying this the choice is yours at the end of the day...just do us all a favour and dont become someone who has two beautiful snakes that are mistreated :)

Best of luck with your choice, Dean
