hey Guys! Went to the local Doc today! Had two Moles taken off my back. Yuck! Only went to get one cut out, but Dave pointed out another one that looked a bit suss. So two were done. Don't go sunbaking, waterskiing, or anything to do with sun these days. I was a far out tanning freak years ago. Hope my little moles on the back aren't Melanomas eh? I won't know for another week now when they take out the stitches? DON'T GO OUT IN THE SUN THESE DAYS WITHOUT SOME SORT OF PROTECTION! Cheers Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I didn't even have to go out in the sun for mine. Although the sun can aggravate seemingly harmless moles and freckles.

My Father has a bad history of skin cancer and sun awareness was drummed into me from a baby, yet I still managed to develop my own.

So, to add to Cheryl's post, cover up in the sun, but don't think yourself exempt when you do. There are types that don't need the sun to blossom. Get all suss moles, freckles, spots, lumps and 'pimples' seen to.

Yeah Wrasse. I've got an Olive type skin. Used to Brown up way back in the old days! No way will you catch me out sunbaking these days! Hope the Younger Generation learn eventually hey? I don't think these kids these days would appreciate skin cancer which can spread thru the whole body eventually?

I knew that was comin, just wasnt sure who'd say it, lmaooooo
I'm scarred up big time from having moles removed. But apparently chicks dig scars, Shame I am one.

Where can you go to get them checked out ?
I live on the beach and have a good tan, quite a few moles and freckles.
I've always meant to have a checkup but always been to busy

There are Mole Scan clinics all over the place too.

When I had my first cancer removed, my gp at the time wasn't even sure it was one and just sent me to the hospital to have it checked out. No one wanted to do anything about it when I got there, just told me it looked ok, wasn't a cancer and not to worry about it. I had to put up a real fight and eventually saw the registrar. I managed to stir up enough fuss that they operated and removed it, plus a suss spot just above it. Yeap, both of them were cancers.

I now go to my Fathers dermatologist to be regularly checked, it's handy to have the family history on file.

Mine aren't usually 'visible' to the naked eye, they manifest themselves as a permanent tingle in one spot or as a little pimple shaped spot, that pops up and down, never going away. So it was very difficult to convince the GP and hospital there was something there.

Here's one to freak you out.
My cousin had a best friend that died 3 years ago from a mole on her arm .She went to the doc who said there was nothing wrong with it...........Months later is got itchy so her mother took her to the doctor. To cut a long tragic story short, The cancer had spread to far and had the 1st doctor picked up on it it may have been able to save her............The point to the story is that she was 14 years old. Age is never a factor
Simone

I get sunburnt just about daily being a chippie I don't bother with sunscreen cause its too greasy and sawdust and rust cakes my skin so I never apply the stuff
If I get melonomas things I deal with it when I need too

Alright, but I don't know how a condom is supposed to stop me getting sunburned...
typical male comment there Greebs!!! And yes always wear sunscreen whilst out it the sun, even if ur in Melbourne
But whilst saying this, its not good for u to completely avoid the sun altogether as u may become Vitamin D deficient, which hinders the absorbtion of calcium risking weak & brittle bones, and Osteoporosis in the long run.
Sorry to go on like sum sort of nutritionist about this  , but i know my mum and a lot of my family have osteoporosis and osteo-arthritis and although it may not seem as dangerous as cancer, its not a nice condition to be stuck with at all
And I know a lot of u guys out there are probley aware of this condition, I'd just thought id post my thoughts re the matter lol
Peace out, and good health 2 all u guys 8)

RE: Re: RE: Never Ever go Out in the Sun without Protection!

My FIL has so many skin cancers cut out after years in the sun that there is very little FIL left!

I reckon a relatively quick painful death from cancer would be preferable to a slow painful life with osteoarthritis.
