hey everyone
today i picked up my 2 new baby green tree frogs. there really little, size of a 5 cent piece. anyway i got them home, set them up in there tank and then realized i had to move some stuff around in the tank - all of a sudden i heard this god awful noise and i look down and its the smaller one making funky noises at me, it almost sounds like a a kitten screaming!
is this normal, i was under the impression that they didnt croak as such till they were a little older?
i went into the tank to add some rocks and he did it again, really loud and goes for a long time when ever i go near him...
i have had green tree frogs when i was younger and dont remember a noise like this.
any ideas???

It's normal. It will become louder and deeper as it matures.

They will attempt to croak from a very young age, they just wont make continuous calls until they are adult

ok thankyou. any particular reason y he would do it when ever i went near him? its not a defense mechanism is it?

Maybe s/he Likes you :) . or maybe its just natural for them to do so. Its probably like when a human is young they are always trying to learn how to speak and as they mature they get the hang of it . Well Most Do . So by what people have already said on this post i think its just him trying to attempt to croak

Its not a defense thing, you will find things like rain outside, the kettle boiling, cooking sounds, the tap running, the vacuum cleaner and when u spray them will trigger it.
And just cos its making a little noise does not mean its male as females can make "half croaks" while males will make continuous calls

They do have a shrill defensive scream. They make them all the time when my dogs try and play with them.

waruikazi is spot on, they have a defensive noise. Perhaps with the move to your house then moved again when you changed the enclosure, it was feeling threatened.

You can usually tell the difference between an attempted croak and the defensive noise by the look of your frog (if you can see it!), if its the defensive noise the frog looks hunched over and they cover their head or kinda squirming away. If they are croaking (or attempting to) they are usually sitting confidently and relaxed. Also when they are trying or learning to croak, its usually a repeated noise but the defensive noise is more of a one off 'squawrk'.

Sounds pretty normal to me, just give em some time to settle in.

owzi, i think your spot on, he looked fairly frightened of me
