Hi All

Bought my new jungle two weeks ago.. was told that it's feeding well and shedding. I attempted to feed it today but the baby hatchling did is to strike at the pinkie but not attempting to eat it.
Haven't been feeding since 3 weeks ago. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Oh , i forgot to mention that it's the second time i attempt to feed it unsuccessfully. :(

it may just need a bit more persistence i know with my spotted hatchies i bred this season they were real pains to get feeding so i had to get them a bit razed up before they would take a pinkie, even then they would drop it 2 to 3 times in 1 feeding and i would have to try again before they would take it, good luck i hope it feeds for you soon.

Firstly, get some fuzzy or small weaner mice - pinkies are not preferred by baby Carpets. Secondly, you should put it in a semi-dark place with no distractions. If it strkes & wraps, just leave it or stand there and watch, but "freeze" - don't move or you will distract it and it will drop the food and focus on the threat - which is you.

What are your temperatures?

The temperature around the hot side is 30 – 32 and 28 on the cooler side.
I tried to feed it during the morning when he is all coiled up in the cooler side or maybe I should try feeding it during the night when he is more active?

Yep, definitely try in the evening, you'll always get the best response from starters. Once established, you can feed anytime, but babies in the wild are totally nocturnal - too many kookas and other predators out during the day. And use long forceps - don't offer with your hands - they're too threatening.

It's fine, my second darwin didn't eat for about 4-5 wks after bringing it home, they can go quite a while without eating. just try once a week it should eat when it's ready and be sure not to handle it much before it does!
