Hey guys. I just got my first snake ( a 8 month old BHP female) and want to ask a few questions on handling etc.
I got her yesterday, and since putting it into the enclosure, she has become very aggressive towards me, striking at the glass. Is this normal? Will it settle down once it has been in there for a few days? How much should I handle it and should that be straight away, or again, leave it alone for a few days?
Lastly, she is used to being fed Thursdays. Should I wait a few extra days to get used to the place or just feed her as per normal?
Thanks for your help, here is a pic :)

Good choice!!!
With any new snake brought home its best to leave them alone for a week or so just to get them to settle down. Remember you have just stressed the ******* out of it during the journey. They wont generally feed if they are stressed aswell. A young snake is always gonna be a bit striky, this is normal. Don't be afraid to get a bite or you can use a hook to get it out of the enclosure and then handle it. Its also important that appropriate hides a available. This will leave it a dark and cramp space for it to escape the open.

after you have let it settle down over a week or so you can handle it as much as you like. But not after a feed, again leave for a day or two.

hope it help! :)

First and foremost welcome to the hobby and the site

As jairusthevirus21 has said keep the handling to a minimum for a week or so to let it settle in. You can offer it a feed if you want just don't push the point if its not interested, bhp are pigs and rarely miss a feed so i don't think you'll have any dramas. I picked up a little jungle the other day and the breeder gave it a mouse at the point of purchase (which i thought was a bit odd) anyway sometime on the bumpy hour long trip home it eat it so just shows you some snakes will eat under any circumstance/stress. Let us know how you get on

Hey Ninety3,
As people have already stated leave the snake a week or two until it gets use to the new environment. Dont handle it on for 2-3 days after feeding. Also because she is a Black Headed python you can probably count on her striking being a bluff and not a real strike, (hopefully, for you sake:p) BHP can be the cause of some new hobiest to be put of because of the massive preformance they can put on, making their "owners" to scared to put their hands in the enclosure.
