Hey everyone, last night one of my spotted hatchys escaped my rack.. Its a day old and already and escape artist..
Seems one shelf on my rack has a slightly wider gap above the tubs then the rest so he made short work of it..
Now im planning to do the usual put flour down and spotlighting at night just curious of where to search as having only bred various species of carpet pythons in the past im unsure if hatchy spotteds like to be up high or stay close to the ground...
Room has to many animals and to much junk to pull apart and there would be a risk of squashing it if attempted so im just going to keep an eye out and hope i spot him or see track in the flour..
So do spotted hatchys like to climb up high or stay down low as they would as adults in the wild?

Hi,ive found over the years that the little hatchlings dont go far and you find them generally not far away if you search, around the heat sources is a good spot,on mats and under tubs, even inside fluro fittings, draws take them out etc, usually adjacent to where they escape.

Hatchlings go high and low but generally not far initially, its the larger adult antaresias ive had escape over the years that went the furtherst and in most cases were males looking for nooky nooky.

Cool thanks for that, I think my best bet will be a bit of night time spot lighting, the whole room is packed with enclosures, racks and junk lol so plenty of places for something the size of an earth worm to hide during the day :)

Hi Bez84

If you look at one of my threads ("Slightly embarassed") I too lost a hatchie, my reptiles room is also full of boxes, racks & enclosures etc, but he turned up 16 days later just in the adjacent room, my housemates room to be precise:) Likely she is tolerant.
So don't give up hope they seem to generally turn up again.......good luck

As zulu said it may be around one of the heat sources, i would have a good check around the rack behind tubs etc and maybe the rack/vivs either side of it too, i understand that searching the whole room would take a while haha but i don't think a day old spotted would go far :)

Just found the missing spotted it was in a cupboard chock full of camping gear, shook out a sleeping bag and out it poped all pale and ready to shed :)
Had a feeling it was in there but i hadnt been looking to hard as they always turn up and i was hoping it was somewhere else as pulling out all the camping gear was a mission lol..
But its back in its tub safe and sound now the fun of getting them all to eat begins...
