Hi all,

I recently moved into my new flat and have just got broadband. I am getting a new computer in the next couple of weeks but currently I'm using an old laptop which is not super hi-tech and doesn't have any anti-virus software.

Anyway I've never used internet away from work so I'm used to systems people looking after everything and when I log on at home I keep getting these pop-up windows tellign me I have viruses and system problems and that I need to go to www.errorfixer.com to get it fixed. Does anyone know if this is a legit website? And how do I stop those annoying pop-ups?

And my laptop is now really slow and things just don't seem right..do I have a virus and how do I kill it?

I know I should probly be asking this on a computer website but this is the only forum I know :)

Any replies much appreciated.

Sounds like you need some anti virus software and somthing to get rid of a lot of spyware. Download Ad-aware 6.0 and run the scan. That should get rid of a lot of software. In regards to those pop ups dont click on the website, chances are they are not legit and will just make your comp even slower.

Start with cleaning out all cookies and internet files. This will remove most off what Adaware would do anyway.

Start > Contral Panel > Internet options > Click on Genaral Tab and then Delete cookies and Delete Files.

This should clean a lot of crap out. But is not all you can do.

What operating System is it?

Download Adaware from the "Lavasoft" website. There is a free version of this very useful tool.
