Hi

I have a friend who has had a class 2 license for several years and he is interested in getting into vens.

On NPWS site it says "
you will also need to read the "NSW Reptile Keepers’ Licence Information Sheet 2006."

does anyone have a link for this I cannot find it. Anyway what he needs to know is, can he just buy a red bellied black or does he need to notify NPWS?

Note please I am only interested in NSW laws, that is all that is relevant.

you can't just go and buy a ven.
you have to follow regulations from npws (they are written on the species list uder class 2)
like you have to have a current first aid cert
they have to be in a locked enclosure in a locked and sealed room
you need an emergency plan in case you get bit
also need 2 recomendations from other ven keepers to say you are confident in you abilities to keep them

i think they are the only conditions

He has to upgrade his license from a basic Class 2 to a Class 2 Category 1. To do that he probably has to request an application from DECC (NPWS) and he'll have to prove that he meets all the prerequisites Casho_B mentions above.
