Behaviour noted:
Intoduction of larger barbata male to enclosure housing smaller pair.
1. Both males see each other and begin head bobbing and displaying.

2. Larger male puffs up goes black and climbs toward the smaller pair

3. small males puffs up and displays and heads down to see off the intruder

4. now on the same level, the larger male displays agressivly

5. from the safety of a plant the smaller male tries a bluff

6 first contact. both males taste each other and check out their opponant

7. both suddenly break and race for the gal

8. more headboobbing and physical contact, a wrestle and the bigger intruder wins

9 the victor checks out the female

10 the smaller male is temporarily defeated

The larger male was only given 5 minutes in this enclosure just to observe natural behaviour,
he was removed before either harmed each other. Intresting to watch! :D
The small male has his gal back and is a happy chappy once more!

p.s Anyone have female avail for sale, must be atleast 25cm sv ?
p.p.s I have no intention to breed at this point, all far too young/small yet. Just want a companion for the bigger guy.

They were last feb[04] batch i think. They are usually much more vivid yellow, quite nice for barbatas. :D

Are they fake plant there inny, where did you find them I cant seem to find em anywhere..

Yeah all faux plants, soz cant remember where i got em, some little discount warehouse place, might've been 'the warehouse' in castlehill. Im always on the lookout for just the right ones, most look way too fake. hard to find strong resiliant realistic ones!

animal attraction has a heap of fake plants that look great.

You wont have much choice in the matter, if she has the ablility, he will do the deed.

I should house em separatly? I see the occasional courtship displays, but no serious 'gettin wid it'.
