OMG - a keelback

Did a bit of herping this morning (trying to get a shot of a local RBBS) and found this little guy, properly the smallest snake I've seen ( except for blind snakes). Very uncooperative little sod but better than the RBBS, they just turn and run ( I have the same effect on women)

I also came across this cranky pants, normally lacies just sit there but this girl hissed and puffed up and displayed her teeth. For some reason I didn't try and move the grass out of the way, possibly because I overvalue my fingers.


And a couple of things you don't normally see while herping.

do lacies protect an area where eggs would be?? maybe why she would be cranky? genuine question too i dont know much about them.

I have never been that excited finding keelbacks lol, nice photos tho.

been a long time since i seen a hare

living out here you use to see them now and then and heaps of rabbits now your lucky to see a rabbit let alone a hare, been here since 2003 and only seen about a dozen rabbits if that

guess the virus really did knock the population on the head and they have still not recovered properly to the numbers they use to be in
