Hi everyone,

I have a woma juvie that I bought earlier this year, and I've noticed over the past day or so that one eye is slightly opaque. It doesn't look too bad when I look at it on its own, but when it's compared to the other, you can see that it is a little more reflective (best way to describe) of the light. I double and triple checked his last shed (week and a bit ago) and both eye caps are intact. He likes to bash his mice against things when he's feeding sometimes and I'm worried that he might have done some damage. The temps have been ok, but got down to 27.5 the other night (despite the thermostat) when it was really chilly (Brisbane). It might just be my paranoia, but I don't think he acts like he can see very well out of it.

I'd love to know if anyone has any experience in this or any ideas at all. If it doesn't improve and/or gets worse, I'll be taking him to Brisbane Bird and Exotics Vet at Mt Gravatt.

im sorry but i had to laugh

Why are you laughing ?!?! Can't you read past the first few lines !
It's been stated the woma only shed a week and a bit ago, the slough has both eyecaps intact, it's a genuine question of concern to which I have no suggestions unless its a retained one from a previous shed, if you're that sure it's not a shedding issue head straight to the vet,

Thank you Jaxrtfm, it made me feel like a bit of a fool and I was wondering what was so funny about what I said. Since posting, I've seen him run into the side of his enclosure a few times when he was turning around and I am genuinely concerned

If he's bumping into things I'd book a vet visit just incase. It may be an old cap and a good soak with a damp face/hand towel may be all that's needed but get the vet to confirm it's nothing worse! Is there anything overly sharp that he could have come into contact with? Their eyes are normally pretty tough compared to our delicate ones

PS: you're welcome

There aren't any scratches that I can see. I'll try water in the morning - way too cold for him now. That will be an interesting experience - he absolutely hates water! If that doesn't work, its off to the vets we go.

And thanks for the thread - its not at that stage yet, but hopefully it won't have the chance

An old eye cap is not going to be still there after a recent complete shed. Any previously retained caps would be external to the latest shed.

LOL, of course it would be, my bad, that will teach me for making posts while i'm at work, not thinking properly

Baxtor is spot on so i'd think seriously about a vet trip,

I noticed one of my little guys eye caps didn't come off, and he is due to shed in the next 1-2 days, I've sprayed him and soaked and everything even cotton balls but not off, hoping in the next shed with extra humidity and the herp shed spray will help them both come off :\

Sounds like he may have bumped his eye, poor snakey.
I think you should take him to the vet.
I'm glad you were already of thinking that, I hate threads when people need to be told...

im sorry but i had to laugh
What the ****???

What awesome help your laughing provides. I am sure the OP appreciates your wisdom in regards to the help they have asked for. The snake is probably so much better off now.
Oooooh look, my post count has gone up too!!

Come on now, I think they've been embarrassed enough by now. It was a pretty obscure thread title; could have been misconstrued as a novice shedding query.

you are more compasionate than some ! I think we are mainly P'd off at the fact they didnt read the post properly and had the insensitivity to think that it was laughable that someone would be silly enough to ask such a basic question.

anyway we shall move on.... let us know how you chose to deal with this, and what any outcome is from a vet visit
