hey guys, just wondering how old a diamond python should be before being housed in an outdoor enclosure?
cheers.

depends on cage size, small ones can escape easily, but if its snake proof for youngens, they should be ok outside if adults are

Hi Richo, Mate i don't realy agree.
The age that a Diamond should be considered for outdoor housing IMO, is about 2.5 to 3 years of age & this is depending on size.

What you are looking for is a reasonable size snake that cannot only escape, but a snake that is big enough & old enough to know where it should be, that is heat/cold & big enough to move in a larger enclosure comfortably.
That is what it is all about is the comfortability of the snake.

Cheers

true ian,but if u can keep adults outdoors in your area, and have an escape proof enclosure,no reason why juvies shouldnt do ok outdoors either,i agree i wouldnt have juvie ones outdoors, but its possable to,they survive outdoors year round in the wild

ive been doing it with a few species of lizard i breed, some are tiny, probably better for diamonds in the long run to i reckon, but easier to house them indoors when so small

Yah mate you are right in a way, as young wild snakes live outdoors, but they have a huge environment to go to to provide protection, warmth & a whole different range of things.

All I am saying is that because they are in our personal care, & they are small snakes that we cannot guarantee an outdoor safe habitat for them we should keep them indoors until they are at a certiain size until they can look after themselves better.

Hence the heat ends, hides etc for enclosures. A small snake is very unsecure in a large enclosure or vivarium.

& Oh mate i did not mean to make a mator of you, I was just hopeing that you might have been able to work out friendlies versus sabors & we could understand the truth.

Cheers

haha, your right mate, hard enough to contain big ones, lol

i agree with the juvies better indoors for those very reasons

outdoors though,we should be striving to give them the options they can find in the wild, heat ,coldness, shelter, protection ect ect,the key being variety, give them alot of options to choose from, the more options they have, the better they will do

but small ones would be hard to find in a set up cage like that, lol, biggens would be fun enough

indoors they would be easier to keep an eye on to,especially juvies, but even big ones, outdoors
