Overnight temperatures for a Stimson's python?

Hi,

I have a question I can't quite resolve. I've had my beautiful baby, Zephyr, for three weeks now. During that time Melbourne has given us a few chilly nights, during which the temperature at the hot end of Zeph's enclosure drops. The lowest I've ever seen it is around 29, but it could be dropping lower when I'm asleep. I'm guessing it will drop even lower in winter.

What are people's opinions on what the overnight temps in a stimmie's enclosure should be? Thanks,

i have heard from 24-29 but that seems low?

maybe try cover half the vents keep the heat in there a bit more or if its on a thermostat maybe try a more powerful heat source during colder seasons

my cool end at night can go to 23 and in the day up to 25
my hot end at night can drop to around 27.9 (so i set my thermostat inbetween the 28-30 degree mark) but on a normal night temp is around 29.7
and my temp in the day is always around 30-31 hotside.

i have a dragon and some geckos. I have reserved a wheatbelt stimmie but am still waiting for the little thing to settle into an eating routine before i can bring him home.

I have a sandfire stimson yearling, who feeds like a shark with a placid nature
and i used to have a 4 year old olive, but he passed away a while ago..
thinking of getting a chondro..love them

aww sorry to hear your pet olive passed away. It's cool you have a sandfire i think they look really nice.
Geckos are pretty cool, they are nocturnal so don't require any uvb just a bit of heat and you are away. I'm picking up another one tom hopefully it is a nephrurus levis.
I think we are the only people actually awake and on the forum hahaha

thanks, he was awesome..but strangely hated my mother ! ..yeah the sandfire is a really good looking snake...beautiful patterns. well thanks i didnt know that..saves some hassle cool, are you thinking of breeding them?
lol most probably, (partner thinks im a vampire or something lol)

not planning to breed them at this stage. Just want to have a few different species. Maybe later down the track but i doubt it hehe. Yeah i am so tired i just got home from visiting family in sydney. Still awake from the redbull on the way home.

haha, haha cant drink redbull, literally gives me wings and i cant sleep for around 2 days. wish i could move to the gong instead of here...be at the beach everyday!...yeah you wont regret a stimmie

Wollongong is ok but it is pretty small and not that good for work but it is great for the beach and relaxing. Some good bush walks and great picnic spots. If you can get close to the water it is good i guess hahah. Yes redbull has given me wings that are keeping me awake haha sometimes its good though Do you have any other reptiles?

Stimson's are very cold tolerant - they are largely an inland python and their natural environment frequently delivers frosts at night, from which they protect themselves of course, but they still get very cold. If they are in the house, you can turn off the heat at night in winter without harming the animal, especially if it is a year or two old.

I covered most of the top of the click click with an old folded-up pillow case and that seemed to keep some heat in. I'm also hoping that the draught-proofing project (of my flat, not the enclosure) I embarked upon this weekend will help. If blocking the vents doesn't help I might have to get the more powerful heat source.

That's a good point. So it seems that while she might need temperatures of about 32, 33 in the day, Zephyr will be okay if her enclosure gets a bit cool overnight.
