Hey guys, in my studio arts class at school, I'm basing my work around snakes, their textures, patterns ect ect. for a some idea experimenting i thought a snake sliding over a canvas with some paint on its underbelly would create an interesting effect.
I know some paints are toxic and the absolute last thing i want to do to my pets is cause them any harm what so ever. so is there a paint i can buy which has no toxins in it and will not be harmful to my snake ? also if you throw any new idea's they would be muchly appreciated, i need as many as i can think of, the more out there the better.
thanks in advance

wouldnt know which paints to advise u on,...

but for other ideas a girl i know collects all my sheds (well, my snakes sheds) and uses wax paper to iron them onto to make lampshades,....i thought that was a pretty cool idea,..

yeah, i have been collecting my snakes shedded skins to use for artworks, not 100% sure on what to do with them but i'll think of some idea's. any one know anything about the paint ? would be realy helpful if somebody did :?

Dulux and Taubmans have a low odour environmentally friendly water based wall paint which you would be best using but be very quick and careful because they dry very quick and will be detramental to your snake should start to dry. Make sure you get it all off

Use whatever kindergartens use. If it's ok for kids to eat it must be ok for your snake to slither through.

What about a mix of flour water and food dye?
and use a varnish or glue or something when its dry to set it?

Go for the paints that are used in pre schools and kindies,as we all know little kids eat paint ...so if the paint is safe for the kiddies then shouldnt be a drama for your snake .....

that sounds like a good idea so i might use that. i'll have a talk to my teacher about it to see if that combination will mix and spread well, then i'll make sure i show you all the results, thanks :)

Let the slitherers tell you

Humans use sunscreen to no ill effect
Sunscreen can kill snakes
same with deoderants perfumes insect repellant etc etc

So be very careful with chemicals
Just because it doesn't harm us means nothing at all

If any of mine animals pull back during a handling display I ask the person to go have a wash and come back

They have pretty good noses

snake + paint

i used a snake skin and painted it then presed the skin along the canvass it had a good effect this is probly the safer way. waterbased craft paint is non toxic but still too risky i think cool idea tho try with the skin see what u think

thats a cool idea, i have a couple of shedded skins so i will try that technique first. i think i may let the snake slide over some sand, then somehow ( maybe hair spray ? ) get the sand to stay in that shape on the paper.
