Intresting story Hix, I vaguley remember a story about a chinese zoo allowing big cats to knock off there own prey. Guess it pulled visitors! Going slightly too far for keepin it natural. Lucky guinea pig lol
I remember a few zoo stories from the seventies when it was accepted practice at some places to feed live.
The first was about a pair of big cats that just lazed around all day and got fat, and eventually wouldn't breed. by introducing lilve prey the cats had to chase the prey and after some weeks of this the ctas were in peak physical condition.
The other story is of a jaguar that was regularly given live food. The hunt and the kill exhibited natural behaviours and instincts. One day while chasing a rabbit the jaguar grabbed in it's jaws, but only just got a grip on it, not a good grip. The rabbit kicked it's back legs and broke the jaguar's jaw.
