My girlfriend used to live in Toowoomba, this is what she says about it (she's no longer a member of this site):
Pets Galore is awful, I had a lot to do with the pet stores up there, because of my spiders, Pets Galore has the most awful woman that won't listen to a word of advice. Once I was in there, she told someone that they could feed crickets to their childreni. Obviously, since the laws changed up there, she's learned a lot more, but she was trying to sell these enormous enclosures to people who were buying hatchlings off them. From what I've seen, the animals were kept very badly and at extraordinary prices. You disagree with the owner, or take something back, she rips your head off, I know of a few people that went back with complants about the products they bought off her and were banned from her store. She's scary, I had a run in with her once, and it was because I was buying mealworms, she asked what I wanted them for, and I said spiderlings, and then she asked if I had a permit, I said no because I had the rangerscome to my house and assess if I needed one. She then threatened to dob me in because my story sounded 'dodgy', FFS, I just went in there to buy food for my spiders, and that happened. Needless to say, she rang them and they confirmed what I had said. It was the first and the last time I would deal with her.
Aquabird is great, they had very reasonable prices, and the guy who owned it (this was a year ago) name is Garry. I used to buy everything from them, often with a huge discount, he's just a nice bloke. He let me swap mice and rats for stuff I need from there, went right out of his way to order me special hides then sold them to me onlyu 50cents above cost price. If you ever go there to buy something, tell him tarantula girl mentioned him, he's the only one worth supporting in Toowoomba (I lived there for 18 years).
If you want to start up a reptile place up there, I can guarantee it would be very popular. Most of the people that I dealt with selling spiders had no idea you could keep reptiles in Australia. Get the word out, keep your prices reasonable, and you will do awesome.
Good luck with it!
