hey im just doing a research project, im making a real natural enclosure for my bredli, cant find to meany plants i can put in its enclosure, from alice springs and the Macdonell rangers, help?

I gave up on live plants years ago as big snakes love to crush them :(

You will need something super tough! I would go good looking plastic
Good luck!

Thick sticks and fake plants are the way to go IMO, maybe ask where you can get some good fake plants for a reasonable price? cos they can be very expensive as can live plants. as Scleropages said, they will most likely eventually get destroyed, and if you go on holidays or forget to water them for a couple of weeks, a lot of expense and effort goes down the tube. also make it hard to control humidity, depending on the enclosure type. although i am sure you are aware of the drawbacks and made arrangements to counter the negatives, i thought i would mention them to others looking at this thread. I am currently in the market for a bulk of fake plants and wondering if anyone knows of a place to get them on the cheaper side? ($30 for my last tuft of grass is just rediculous... but needed to be done)

grass turf wont gett any cheaper! i paid 60 for a 4x2x2 its fairly expensive.

hey mate, depends what part of SA you are from, but there is a florist in Modbury that does heaps of different types of fake plants, I am a bit unsure of what plants are from Alice springs, but they had a heap of those 'spinifex' looking grasses, and a few other desert plants like blackboys etc.
They were a bit pricy for my liking otherwise my tanks would be full of them.

To keep da plant in your enclosure mon you will have to monitor and control a few variables. The root zone will have to be cooled with water circulation. water also carry oxygen to roots which will need need good drainage and plenty of space. Remember it the root zone isnt the optimin temp your plant will become stressed.
If you get your roots sorted out the ambient air temp is even more critical. The burns to your beloved plants can be quite horrific.
You will need airflow for temp controll and gas exchange for the leaves.
For lighting i recommend two 600 watt bulbs or one 1000watt hps with air cooling.
Personnally i think its wrong to hold a plant captive. Overfeeding can enhance your plant but keep in mind it will only live half as long.

Wow - that's weird... and expensive!

Plants are Ok with small, light animals such as green tree snakes, but something like a bredli - they won't last a week.

...I have a 150watt flood light in my bredli tank and its ok and you are suggesting to put TWO 600watt globes in there....

hrm. there could be another thread on eating cooked snake.
