Just wondering what you do in terms of heat for your reptiles when you have a Power Outage, A person on this site just lost power and is wondering What you would do?

I know one night might be fine, but none the less do you have back up plans? Especially if you are incubating.

I have a small generator 700watts,cost $100 new.
Or you can go for a inverter, there powered by a car battery.

Actually hunting down a UPS as we speak.

Be careful, a thread some time ago mentioned that with most UPS, if a thermostat (on/off type) I think was plugged in, the temp rose and the thermostat turned off, the UPS realises this and stops applying power - or something along those lines. So a UPS might not be the best choice for thermostats.

I can't find the thread, but someone might be able to post the link if they can.

I use an inverter c/w deep cycle battery.
I run a 25w heat cord, so you can a few hours out of it no problems

Living South of Cairns in the sticks and the cyclones that hit, we are sometimes left without power for a week or more. Luckily it is hot as hell so we don't need to worry about it.

But if I was the worrying sort I would install a generator outlet in my switchboard to power critical circuits.

Haha i never noticed this thread untill tonight, it was me that lost power.. for about 2 hours on thursday night, and it just happened to be a REALLY cold night.
Lucky for me it wasnt out for too long, im sure my snake would have been fine for one night though.

But, i dont know what id do for heat if i had no power for a week, id have to take her to a friends place. But then again, i dont think any of my friends would want a snake!

back-up power [ups]

theres a lot of crap in this thread about inverters, l run a pure sine wave type inverter with two deep cycle batteries [enough for my incubator for 28 hrs continuous] and my incubator is 2meters long by 1 meter square] l also have a solenoid system that cuts the main supply back in when the power comes back on, that idea inverters recognise thermostats is TOTAL rubbish obviously by people with no experience in this field .....try running a $100 genny. in the suburbs at 2am.....l don't think so, it might be ok if you live in the sticks/bush but who going to be home or up to start it........cheers solar 17
