Anyone else experiencing this joy tonight? I am just really hoping that it doesn't affect the thermostat or heat cord on my incubator. Everything else can wait a few days to be fixed, but the incubator is crucial. It seems that a couple of electrical appliances may not fully recover. Haven't dared turn on the plasma TV tonight and we are only working off cordless internet devices because the router keeps dropping out. This stinks.

bugger , i had a powerout last year when i had beardie eggs in the incubator . i endedup geting the battery out of the car and using my invertor until the main power came back on ... all ended hatching .

It absolutely stinks for the rip-off they are charging. One of the tv stations aired a report a little while back that you can claim back some of your bills for the poor service but I didn't actually see the details.

We seem to have gotten through with only minor weirdness with the microwave and all reptile enclosures working fine. The main thing is that my eggs are doing well.

The first year we moved into this house we had at least 5 blackouts each lasting for many hours, usually overnight and we had quite a few eggs cooking at the time.Invested in an inverter with battery backup and ever since then the electricity supply has been good (touch wood).Having an inverter hooked up has saved me a lot of worry just the same.

Darwin has one of the highest annual lightning strike rates in the world. Wet season we lose power all the time but at least it's warm. Some people have generators, I light a candle and go out on the balcony to watch the snakes :)

Just a suggestion would a UPS (mostly used with computers) be a short term solution when the power goes out?

I think people stress about keeping eggs perfect... I've incubated monitor and gecko eggs in a cupboard in the reptile room. It's not perfect out in the wild.

Whats a setup like this set you back??? Hard to do?

Hard to justify the inverter, etc with only ones clutch, but it is certainly something to consider for the future. A few hours of blackout would not be too much of a problem with a well insulated incubator, but I was mainly afraid of surges wrecking my electronics. Not everything has a surge protector, although I may have to fix that....
