Can anyone tell me is there any way other than probing to find the sex of python's????

yep.. you can also tell by the shed if its neat..at the cloacal you can JUST see the prongs..or nothing for female.

Spurs aren't really a good indication as females also have them.
Probing is the most accurate way to tell, males probe a deeper number of subcaudal scales than females do.

Sexing

I wouldn't be too confident with the spur or shed technique. Probing would be the best bet for most but... I have heard of experienced keepers doing it by eye i.e. bulging behind the vent for males testies and a more tapered appearance in the females.

Didnt have probes on me the other day when I had 2 bhps and 3 womas dropped off my mate picked the sexes on bhps by using this method, I new what they were as they were marked on containers, the 3 womas however came in 1 tub all together 2 females and 1 male, he gave it a go and we will find out once I get the probes at my place to make sure!!

I just missed my new 2m coastal shedding yesterday, I had been out to the enclosure in the afternoon checking on him, and then 2 hours later my father in law came in and said, "So, your snake shed huh?"

I was spewin!

Anyway, Ive looked closely at the cloacal bit, and it looked pretty bland... smooth edged, couldnt see any indication of anything sticking out etc, is this a reasonable indication of being female given the size of the subject?

Could anyone posting in this thread tell from a close up pic?
