Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone out there can give me some advice. I have a 12 year old Darwin Coastal Python and I'm a little concerned.

When he was last fed, he starting the glass quite viciously. He did this about 8 or 9 times. He has always been quite placid but now my children have become frightened. I must admit we haven't been taking him out of his cage that much. Do you think this is why he is acting this way?? Any advice appreciated.

Hey kitkat, I think you may have inadvertently left out a word or two in your description of what your Darwin is doing?

Is he lunging at and smacking into the glass?

In any case, I don't know the answer, but someone else hopefully will :)

12 years or 12 months? he could have just got a wiff of the rodent and reacted as you walked up to the enclosure, he could have been startled and behaving defensively. He is not being vicious.

my guess he is a 12mth old Darwin (not Darwin coastal python .. unless its a cross)
regardless of his age i'd say he has smelt the food long before it was offered, and hitting the glass cos he knows you are close enough for him to grab it, Darwins are well known for liking their food, and even my ultra placid Juvi darwin turns into jekyll and hyde at the slightest smell of rodent....
