I've noticed that my male spotted python puffs his throat in the week before shedding and another of my spotteds puffs her throat when i'm holding her and she suddently get spooked by something. However everytime they puff I get scared that it's a sign of RI but it goes away after they shed or after the girl has calmed down. Does anyone else have pythons that puff their throat without it being RI so I can settle my nerves that everytime they puff it's not a sign of RI.

Puffy throats are quite common when they are coming into shed. I noticed my male carpet does it, and I use to have a little spotty who also did it. Puff out like a frog. Provided it stops, nothing to worry about. I don't know why they do it, though. Maybe its a way to stretch the skin to make it break, or they can feel the looseness feeling there and its uncomfortable. Dunno, I am just guessing.

Ive noticed the same thing. My male mac does it when due for a shed. I also got quite worried and went to a vet just to be sure ad was told to keep an eye on it as they can be funny during shed, and after the shed it went. Happens frequently when due for a shed though

Thanks guys... Calmed me down a bit... I guess I just have to keep watching after the shed to make sure it keeps going away
